The United Church of Canada’s 43rd General CouncilThe 43rd General Council of The United Church of Canada ran from July 21 ~ 27th, 2018 at DurhamCollege / University of Ontario Institute of Technology, in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The theme was “Risking Faith, Daring Hope.”
It kicked of with the Festival of Faith ~ July 21 & 22.

Mother’s Day Geraniums – everyone was invited to bring a geranium plant(s) on Mother’s Day in honour/memory of their Mother/Grandmother. Upon arrival plant stakes and cards where available to write who was being honoured and inserted into the plant. Then you placed your plant in a window or at the front of the church — after May 24th they would be planted in the church flower beds and planters by Barb and Karen.
Spring clean-up day took place inside and outside the church. Notice the front door, the metal railings and flower urns were all given a fresh coat of paint. Sidewalks were weeded and edged. Windows inside and out were cleaned. A new container was placed at the back entrance to hide the recycling and garbage containers earlier in the month. The list goes on and on….
Thanks to everyone who came out and added their elbow grease to the project, many hands make light work!

There is nothing more that brings in those heartwarming feelings of Christmas and the Birth of our saviour “Christ” than the feelings triggered by sound, touch, smell, and sight, than attending the Christmas Eve Service every year.

History
You may have noticed the construction activity at Hampton church that took place back in October-November 2016.
The sanctuary received a much needed new roof.
The asbestos shingles and two chimneys were removed and a synthetic underlayment and a new metal roof was installed.

The community of Hampton, like many others, is rich in memories of the joys and sorrows of the pioneers who laid the foundation of our village.
But like anything that has been standing for over 100 years–major restorations sometimes need to be made.

~ 1874 – On May 7th construction began for the then “Bible Christian” Church when the Honourable Senator John Simpson laid the first cornerstone.
The property had once been the site of a hotel, owed by a Mr. Pye, but that building was relocated across the street and moved North a year earlier and exists today as a house.
The total cost to build was $7,000 with plenty of labour and materials being donated by local members. Mr. Wm. Cann donated the wood for the pews.
