Parables

Activities/ideas the girls (and siblings) can do at home relating to the Bedtime Bible Stories with The Skit Guys on . . . .

Parables covered below are:

    • The Persistent Widow (S2)
    • Parable of Talents
    • The Wise & Foolish Builders
    • The Prodigal Son (Part 1 & Part 2-other brother)
    • The Pharisee and the Tax Collection (The Lord’s Prayer)
    • The Good Samaritan

The Persistent Widow

In this episode, Tommy and Eddie bring back Grandma and Grandson to demonstrate the story of the persistent widow from Luke 18. They’ll remind you to continue to ask God for what you need.

Word: Ask

Scriptures (NRSV): Luke 18:1-8

Memory Verse: 12 “In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets. Mark 7:12 (NRSV)

Parable of Talents

In the story Jesus tells about a boss who gives his workers bags of money, two invest it while the third buries it. Tommy and Eddie bring the story to life as they talk about how we can use our talents and gifts as an offering to God.

Word: Offering

Scriptures (NIV): Matthew 25:14-30

Memory Verse: Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise. (Hebrews 10:23 GNT)

Wise & Foolish Builders

As Tommy and Eddie unpack the parable of the wise and foolish builders from Luke 6:46-49, you’ll think about what it looks like to build your faith on a strong foundation

Word: Wise

Scriptures (NIV): Luke 6:46-49

Memory Verse: For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT)

Animated Video Short

Here’s my favourite video on the story of the Wise & Foolish Builders, it’s wordless, created by MAX7.org.

The Prodigal Son (Part 1)

Tommy and Eddie retell the parable of the Prodigal Son that Jesus shared with His followers. You’re guaranteed to laugh along and be challenged to think about our Heavenly Father and unconditional love.

Word – unconditional

Scripture: Luke 15:11-32 (New Living Translation)

1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV) – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Animated Short Video

Here’s an animated short video of The Prodigal Son by Saddleback Kids.

Music Video

Here’s a great song by Tauren Wells called “Known”. It speaks of God’s unconditional love. Once you hear it you’ll want to have it playing over and over again in the background as you work/play about the house, that’s what I do.

Below Tauren Well’s song “Known” was used for the background of this wordless CGI animated film about unconditional love. Enjoy!

Prodigal Son — Part 2

We’ve heard the story of the father’s forgiveness and unconditional love shown to the “prodigal son,” but what about the older brother? Tommy and Eddie show what it might have been like in that sibling relationship where one brother compares himself to the other.

Word: Compare

Scriptures (NIV): Luke 15:25-32

Memory Verse: I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:14a (NRSV)

The Pharisee and the Tax Collection (The Lord’s Prayer)

Tonight, Tommy and Eddie demonstrate different (not-so-great) kinds of prayer and show you a way to make The Lord’s Prayer feel more conversational with God.

Word: Talk

Scriptures (NIV): Luke 18:9-14 – The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

Memory Verse: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (NRSV)

Animated Video Short

The Good Samaritan

Tommy surprises Eddie with tonight’s story, calling on Eddie to act out all the parts in the story of the Good Samaritan. Laugh a lot while you learn about compassion.
